Today's wanderings

Geysir

Random stop to make horse friends (see my new best friend in the picture above)

Gulfoss

Kerid crater

Seljanlandfoss

I saw my first geysir erupting today! Apart from the smell of sulfur (which actually wasn't too strong) and the insane amount of toursists, it was an amazing experience. There seemed to be a pattern of two small eruptions followed by a much larger eruption of water.

After seeing the geysir we made our way to gulfoss which is Icelandic for "golden falls". On our way to gulfoss we stopped for a bit to make friends with the local horses. We snapped some selfies and I soon realized that most of these ponies have nicer hair than I do. I made friends with one particularly friendly horse that I think mostly just wanted to eat my rain jacket. After saying bye to our new furry friends, we made it to gulfoss where we braved more tourists like ourselves, as well as gusty winds blowing the water from the falls directly into our faces. The falls were beautiful!

After gulfoss we traveled south through Hella Iceland, where we saw Hella sheep and Hella horses. We traveled on and made it to our final destination for the day, Seljanlandfoss. At Seljanlandfoss we got to walk behind the waterfall! I've always wanted to walk behind a waterfall and I finally got to check it off my bucket list ✔️We also managed to get completely soaked as the wind whipped the water in every direction. Definitely worth it though!

We settled into our campervan for the night and changed into our dry clothes. Our van is equipped with small heater to keep us warm at night, and we brought our own sleeping bags and a down blanket. As I lay here typing this out, the wind is whistling as it goes around our van. Iceland weather changes rapidly and the wind can get so powerful that doors of cars have been ripped off the hinges in the past. I'm crossing my fingers that I don't wake up in the middle of the night because the van tips over from the wind. Wish me luck!
